Wide range of capacitors at Isatronick

Isatronick distributes following capacitors from Viking, Iskra, JB Capacitors and LCR, among others:

Electrolytic capacitors

You use them for high-capacity applications, such as energy storage in power supplies and audio equipment. At Isatronick, you can choose from aluminium and tantalum electrolytic capacitors.

Ceramic capacitors

These are compact, versatile components, ideal for signal filters and high-frequency circuits. Also known as Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors (MLCCs).

Filmcapacitors

These contain a thin plastic film as dielectric and are known for their reliability.

Moreover, our capacitors are suitable for different construction shapes.

·         SMD (Surface Mount Device) with dimensions 0201, 0402, 0603, 0805, 1206, 1210, 1808, 1812, 1825, 2211, 2220 and 2225

·         Through Hole-technologie (THT)

This is how a capacitor works

An electrical capacitor or capacitor is a passive electronic component that stores electrical charge. It does this by creating a voltage difference between two conducting plates separated by an insulator (the dielectric). Once the voltage drops, the capacitor releases the stored energy again.

This makes capacitors indispensable components in many electronic circuits, from smoothing current surges to buffering energy in complex systems. At Isatronick, we offer capacitors in various designs, tailored to your specific requirements.

Characteristics of capacitors

The capacitance of a capacitor indicates how much electrical charge it can store at a given voltage. This is measured in farads (F) and ranges from a few picofarads (pF) to several microfarads (µF) or even millifarads (mF), depending on the application.

High-capacity capacitors are often used in power supply systems to buffer energy. Small capacitances are more suitable for precision applications such as filters and oscillators.

Besides capacity, there are some other important characteristics that determine how it functions and what it is suitable for:

·         Voltage Rating: the maximum working voltage, specified in volts (V)

·         Tolerance: the allowed deviation from capacity, expressed as a percentage

·         Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR): the lower the internal resistance, the better the performance

·         Self-inductance: the lower the self-inductance, the better performing the capacitor in high-frequency circuits

·         Temperature range: the minimum and maximum between which the capacitor functions reliably

·         Polarity: polarised capacitors should be connected in the right direction

·         Physical dimensions: especially important in compact or portable devices

·         Leakage current: the lower the leakage current, the better the capacitor holds charges

Applications of capacitors

Capacitors are versatile components suitable for numerous applications. Here are some common examples:

·         Power filters: capacitors ensure stable power supply by filtering voltage peaks and drops.

·         Energy buffering: in circuits with high peak loads, you use capacitors to temporarily store and release energy.

·         Signal filtering: in audio equipment and communication devices, capacitors filter out unwanted frequencies from signals.

·         Motor start-up: capacitors allow electric motors to start and run more efficiently.

·         Timing and oscillators: capacitors are crucial in circuits that depend on timing settings, such as clock oscillators.

Connecting a capacitor

Connecting a capacitor depends on its type and application. Generally, capacitors have two connections (poles). With non-polarised capacitors, it does not matter how you connect them. With polarised ones, such as electrolytic capacitors, it is crucial to respect the correct polarity.

When installing, always pay attention to the specifications, such as voltage and capacitance, to avoid damage to the capacitor or circuit. Need help choosing the right capacitor or questions about connection? Contact us, our experienced team is ready to help you.
